Why speeding happens!

The whole justification of prosecuting drivers by the tens of thousands is that 'speeding' is deliberate and disobedient. It isn't. Most drivers are trying very hard to stick to the limits and none of us find it possible to always be  below the limit

Below is a selection from our comments in objection to a couple of speed limit orders. This is happening where you are.
**********************

'You will see that The Statement of Reasons given provides no accident history. So, what accidents have occurred where the primary cause was speed?
**********************

The unchallenged driving science is that speed is only the primary cause where a driver loses control of a vehicle, no other outside influences or actions by other road users involved. If there are no such accidents recorded then there is the danger that by focusing on speed we are not dealing with primary causes. I am afraid that there needs to be better justification offered for speed limits.
****************
We discount local perception and views of residents and road users, who are not expert drivers, influencing speed restrictions especially when an element of ‘nimbyism’ and lack of driving knowledge is the probable motivation behind this order. We simply cannot maintain a national speed policy based on local amateur perceptions if we are to prosecute people over it. .
******************

Note: that the police view has not been included. We do draw a distinction between police and residents and politicians when it comes to speed limits and their important view should be included in the statement. How do they intend to police these limits?
********************
Having driven at 40 MPH over the proposed 30 MPH, 40MPH was easily achievable and safe so this appears to be speed limit creep. Completely agricultural along the eastern side and a few dwellings along the western side.
*******************

This will cause drivers to exceed the limit. Most speeding is actually caused by drivers doing what they are supposed to do; that is drive to the circumstances and conditions. If this creates speeding it usually means the limits are too low. This is exactly the effect seen where cameras have been switched off and drivers are now driving to the road and through their windscreens  not by speedometer. Lowering this section any more will cause exactly that effect.

**********************

Have we forgotten that this speed limit review was instigated by the last administration and indeed we are supposed to be making budgetary cuts. This review has cost a fortune. Most of the limits imposed have had no other justification other than the review. Isn’t it about time Lincolnshire dropped this very expensive and costly exercise?

'***********************

Any police reading this and then still think they can justify pointing cameras?

Most speeding is caused by inviting speed enticement layouts and or by setting limits far lower than a safe driving speed. It is our experience that most speeding is created by the authorities who then gain from it. Either unwittingly or knowingly, a failure to query why a site attracts so much speeding revenue, is an appalling failure of duty.
