Please assist us with this important poll. Police are now routinely arresting drivers after fatal accidents and interviewing them whilst in trauma and shock.
For background, criminals are only arrested whilst committing or after substantial evidence has been gathered against them.
Police are currently arresting drivers whilst still appealing for witnesses.
If you have given police enough information to trace you and ID yourself, police can arrange interviews and lay summonses on other occasions.
Arresting drivers is purely for the convenience of police and their investigation but when drivers are in shock & traumatised is this the right time to obtain comments from them?
Our advice to drivers is to only prove ID to be released and not comment at all on the accident.

IIt's simple physics. Exceeding an arbitrary unscientific number on a pole (Speeding) cannot cause anything to happen. Driving too fast at any speed, and which occurs mostly below the limits, causes accidents and is an element of dangerous driving.
By focusing on 'speeding' that doesn't cause accidents, it's at the expense of focusing on several accident causes and that is fatal. So we think police and their courses should concentrate far less on speeding and mostly on other aspects that do cause accidents.
